SELF-CATERING HOLIDAY OF THE YEAR
FOR THE LAKE DISTRICT AND CUMBRIA

Self-catering at Hall Hills

Hall Hills has a cluster of five self-catering cottages situated at Raughton Head near Dalston in Cumbria, not far from the Lake District resorts of Keswick, Derwentwater and Ullswater. They offer high quality 4-star and 5-star self-catering holiday accommodation in painstakingly and lovingly converted 17th century granaries and barns. Each self-catering property has been individually designed and has been fitted and equipped to a very high standard. Every effort has been made to retain the traditional charm of the original farm buildings, as seen in the exposed wooden beams and the solid oak floors. Each self-catering cottage enjoys its own private patio area with uninterrupted views across the verdant Cumbrian countryside towards the Lake District and the Scottish Borders.

Self-Catering Holiday Of The Year

The self-catering holiday cottages at Hall Hills close to the Lake District in Cumbria were named Self-Catering Holiday Of The Year for the Lake District and the wider Cumbria area by Cumbria Tourism in the spring of 2009. The proprietors of Hall Hills, Jude and Tim Walker were delighted with the award and not a little surprised.

Hall Hills prepared meticulously for the competition, believing it stood a chance of being named Self-Catering Holiday Of The Year, but also holding some doubts about whether the odds were in its favour. Although there was no question about the quality of their self-catering holiday accommodation, Jude and Tim expected that the going would be very hard competing against self-catering cottages in the more well-known, high-profile resorts within the Lake District National Park.

When Hall Hills was finally named Self-Catering Holiday Of The Year at the Cumbria Tourism awards ceremony in Carlisle, Jude and Tim were absolutely delighted. This also meant that as winners of the local Cumbria competition they would be entered for the regional competition to find the self-catering holiday of the year for the north-west of England.

The aim of the North-West Tourism Awards is to reward excellence in tourism. Being entered for the regional self-catering competition involved a lengthy assessment process with the judges scrutinizing areas such as the level of service offered, environmental sustainability and access. Preparations for this had to be meticulous.

The results for the North-West England competition were announced in Blackpool at the famous Tower Ballroom on September 28. Once again, the other competitors in the self-catering category seemed almost unbeatable, and when Jude and Tim set off for the famous Golden Mile there were no delusions about their chances. As it turned out, though, Hall Hills was named Self-Catering Holiday Of The Year for the North-West of England. The champagne flowed.

As winners of the regional competition, the Hall Hills self-catering cottages will be entered for the national competition organised by Enjoy England, whose results will be announced in April 2010.
